A fire at a sheltered housing complex in Edinburgh may have started in a settee in one of the building's flats, investigators have said.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control after being called to Old Farm Court in Colinton at about 2000 BST on Wednesday. No-one was injured.

However, it is still not known exactly what started the fire.

The building was evacuated and a search carried out. All of the 130 elderly residents were accounted for.

Firefighters and staff managed to assemble a large number of the residents in the common room of the building while they searched for the others.

Heavy smoke damaged first and second floor sections of the complex but only one of the elderly residents has had to be found new accommodation.

Lothian Fire Brigade said the doors to some accommodation had to be broken down as rescuers checked whether anyone was trapped.

A spokesman for the ambulance service said that some residents were treated for mild shock.
