Students receive record results
Ninety-five per cent of A-level students in schools and colleges across Coventry have achieved a pass grade.

Figures from Coventry City Council show there has been a record number of entries with almost one third gaining grades A and B.

The council says the results endorse the praise given to Coventry's secondary schools in the recent Ofsted inspection report.

A council spokesman says the results are very pleasing for city students.

Meanwhile universities across the West Midlands are gearing up to be inundated by thousands of prospective students who are receiving their A-Level results.

Passes have risen for the 22nd consecutive year with an even greater increase in A grades.

Staff at the University of Birmingham expect to receive 8,000 telephone calls from students who are confirming their place or who have not reached their grades.
