As Oscar nominated films go, Bud Luckey's 'Boundin'' must be one of the shortest, short films at four minutes long
The animated images in Boundin' are described as stunning and intriguing, the animations are brought to life by Bud Luckey's sketches and his vision as a film director.
Luckey is also credited for creating the cowboy character 'Woody' in the hugely successful animated feature 'Toy Story'.
And Bud Luckey will be in the Breakfast studio with the producer of Boundin' Osnat Scherer - you can see that interview at 8050 BST
Boundin' tells the story of a 'jackalope' who becomes a guiding light to a forlorn lamb; such was the short film's success that it was nominated for an Oscar for best animated short film.
The picture at the top of this page shows one of the original storyboard images, drawn by Bud who started his career as an animator at a young age using a broken brick to draw instead of chalk.
Now 69, Luckey has had a hand in every animation created by the Pixar studio, the idea for Boundin' started with a sympathetic character.
Quoted in an American newspaper article he says: ""The most pathetic, sympathetic character I could think of was a sheep after he'd been sheared, out in the rain. I started there," he said.
The story is told through song, a lilting Western waltz written, sung and performed on the banjo by Luckey. In the ballad, Luckey's rich, warm voice sounds a bit like Burl Ives.
"His voice wraps you up and pulls you in to the storytelling," said Roger Gould, who co-directed the animated short. "It's like listening to this kindly old uncle sitting around the campfire telling you this great old tale."
Luckey also does the voices of both the lamb and the jackalope, a mythic cross between a jackrabbit and a deer.
