Pupils can win DVD for turning up
Moorhead High School
The school is seeking creative solutions to truancy
A school in Lancashire is offering children the chance to win a DVD player if they achieve a 100% attendance record.

Moorhead High School, in Accrington, has set up the incentive as part of its efforts to tackle truancy.

The school also sends text messages to parents if their children have been found to be skipping lessons.

Headteacher Andrew Bateman said the school had learned to be creative to stay a step ahead of the pupils.

He said: "We have installed a new system in school which sends text messages to parents and that's having a positive impact.

"We also realised that our letters which were going home had our school crest emblazoned on the front of it.

"The pupils realised what they were likely to be so we have taken those off.

"We have to be as creative as they are."
