A campaign to have lifeguards introduced at a beach where a 10-year-old boy died, is being stepped up.

Wayne Adams died after getting into trouble while swimming with his brother Jason, 11, at St Bees on 8 August.

More than 1,000 names have already been collected on a petition urging safety be improved at the popular spot.

Now campaigners are planning to march on the offices of Copeland Borough Council, which has promised to review safety at St Bees.

Campaigners hope to launch a charity in memory of Wayne, which would co-ordinate funds towards establishing a lifeguard service.

Copeland Borough Council says it may consider introducing lifeguards to the beach area, but also has to take into account a number of "different factors" before making any final decision.

Brian Parr, who organised the petition, said people were angry at reports that council bosses were unwilling to pay for lifeguards.
