Passengers can now fly to Switzerland from Liverpool
Budget airline Easyjet has announced a new European route from Liverpool's John Lennon airport and Stansted.

From Monday, passengers will be able to take advantage of a new daily service to the Swiss city of Basel.

It is the first of six new Easyjet destinations to be announced by the airline over this year.

The company now offers 13 routes from Liverpool and 25 from Stansted. Return tickets prices for both routes begin at £30.98, the airline said.

Basel is situated on the River Rhine and borders France and Germany.

'400,000 passengers'

It is also the second biggest city in Switzerland.

Ray Webster, Easyjet Chief Executive said: "Basel is the first of Easyjet's six new cities to be launched this year.

"A further 36 routes will begin operations this summer connecting a variety of bases throughout our network.

"We expect 400,000 passengers will travel on our Basel services over the next year. "

The airline is also launching flights from Liverpool to Berlin and Cologne, in Germany, later this year as well as a new service from Stansted to Ljubljana, in Slovenia.
