Army blows up suspicious package
A police vehicle in Great Barr, Birmingham
About 20 officers were called to deal with the incident
An Army bomb disposal team has blown up a suspicious package in Birmingham.

Police were alerted at about 1130 GMT on Sunday and cordoned off the Scott Arms junction in Great Barr.

Newton Road, Queslett Road and Birmingham Road were all sealed off during the incident, which was attended by about 20 officers.

A West Midlands Police spokeswoman said: "A controlled explosion was carried out and nothing untoward was found."

She said it was "standard procedure" to call in bomb disposal experts to deal with security alerts of this kind.

All the roads in the area have since reopened.
