Police want to question a 29-year-old man who is in a critical condition at the James Cook University Hospital.
Detectives said the man was found hanging in a property on Lothian Road shortly after the incident.
Officers cut the man down and gave him first aid before paramedics arrived to take over.
In a statement on Wednesday, her family said they were totally numbed by what had happened.
They said: "Nusrat was a happy, friendly, bubbly young woman who had a kind word and a smile for everyone.
