Police were called to Levington Marina at about 0600 BST
Two bodies have been recovered from a river in Suffolk.

The men, both in their 70s, were recovered from the River Orwell at Levington Marina, on Sunday.

It is thought they may have fallen from their yacht on Saturday night but the alarm was not raised until around 0600 BST on Sunday by a friend of the men.

Suffolk Police said the deaths were being treated as unexplained but the coroner had been told and a post mortem examination would take place on Monday.

Officers were contacted by a concerned friend of the pair who reported they had gone missing from their yacht.

Coastguard involved

He told police they had returned to the boat at about midnight last night after spending an evening out.

When police arrived shortly after 0600 BST the body of one of the men had been located in the water.

Following a search involving the Thames Coast Guard and the Harwich lifeboat, the second body was found.

A Suffolk Police spokeswoman said both bodies had been taken to Ipswich Hospital.

"As is standard procedure police are currently treating the deaths as unexplained, although there is nothing at this stage to suggest suspicious circumstances," she said.

The two men are believed to live in East Anglia.
