A 14-year-old boy from England has died after a road crash in County Down.

A man remains critically ill in hospital following the accident on the dual carriageway near Bangor just after 1500 BST on Tuesday.

Two females and five children were treated for minor injuries in the Ulster Hospital in Dundonald, which admitted a total of nine casualties.

Matthew Ian Hunt, of Hazelgill, Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, died on Tuesday evening.

A total of 12 people were caught up in the crash which involved a four-wheel drive vehicle towing a speedboat, a people carrier and a Vauxhall Astra car.

Traffic lights

The Bangor Road at the junction of Main Street at Whitespots near Conlig was closed in both directions.

The exact circumstances of the accident are under investigation.

Meanwhile, a 14-year-old girl is seriously ill in hospital after a car crash in south Belfast.

It happened on Tuesday evening on the Ormeau Road between the traffic lights at Rosetta Park and Annadale Avenue.

Earlier, nine people were treated for minor injuries following a separate road crash involving five vehicles in County Antrim.

It happened along the Frosses Road on the Ballymoney side of the Knockahollet Road on Tuesday morning.
