Attempted murder charge

A 22-year-old County Down woman has appeared in court charged with attempted murder.

Roisin Donaghue, 22 from Glenveigh in Newry was charged in connection with a stabbing incident in the Caulfield Place area of the town on Tuesday.

A 40-year-old man remains in a serious condition in hospital.

Ms Donaghue appeared at Newry Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Also in court was Peter Paul Kelly, 20, from Bridge Street, Newry, who was accused of assisting an alleged offender.

A detective constable told the court that when both were charged, they replied: "No".

Both were remanded in custody for a month.
