A computer marked my A Levels
|
Tomorrow is crunch day if you want to go to college
|
The wait is nearly over for students expecting their A-Level results this week. And - little known to them - more than a million scripts have been marked on computers for the first time.
The examination board Edexcel has been pioneering the technique, which involves scanning each candidate's papers into a computer so they can be marked online.
The marking itself is still done by a human being - but it could eventually mean that exam scripts could be assessed anywhere in the world.
Breakfast's Mike Sergeant found out exactly how the system works, with one exam marker who's delighted to have ditched a pile of scripts for a computer.
But Sue Rodgers, of the teaching union the NASUWT told us that some markers had complained the computer crashed at busy times - especially in the evening.
You can get expert independent and free advice on what to do about your A level results from One Life's helpline: 0808 100 8000. Calls are free and lines are open daily, including weekends, from Tuesday 10 August - Saturday 28 August.
