Man 'critical' after hit and run

A man who was knocked down by a hit and run driver in York is in a critical condition in hospital, say police.

The 28-year-old was hit by a green Vauxhall Cavalier as he crossed Green Lane, in Acomb, at 2030 GMT on Friday, after buying some chips nearby.

The car did not stop and carried on travelling towards Hamilton Drive.

A man was later arrested after a car, which is believed to have been involved in the crash, was recovered from Acomb. Police are appealing for witnesses.
