A 52-year-old painter and decorator found hanging in his prison cell died accidentally, an inquest has found.
Stephen John Davies, was discovered on 2 December at HMP Birmingham, where he was serving a sentence for assault.
A jury at the city's coroner's court decided Davies may not have meant to kill himself and the hanging could have been a cry for help that went wrong.
His family said they were relieved at the verdict after waiting nearly nine months for the inquest to take place.
