Awards for two new city buildings
Hull KC Stadium
The stadium is part of the regeneration of west Hull
Two new buildings in Hull have won national architectural awards.

The KC Stadium and the Deep are both included in the 2004 Civic Trust awards which attracted over 400 entries.

Judges looked not just at the architectural merit of the buildings which were entered but also how they benefited their local communities.

The KC Stadium cost £43.5m and opened in December 2002 while the Deep has attracted thousands of people to Hull with its theme of exploring the oceans.

Councillor Tom McVie, who chairs Hull City Council's stadium committee said: "The stadium was honoured with only one of nine special awards.

"It was one of only a handful of Yorkshire projects recognised by the Civic Trust."

The chairman of the Deep, Councillor David Gemmell, said: "The award reflects the truly unique and inspiring architecture of the building designed by Sir Terry Farrell."
