Goose bars the way to park work
Workers in the Mansfield area have had their feathers ruffled after a goose stopped them removing two trees blown down in the recent high winds.

The bird has made a nest in between the fallen trees at a millpond in Warsop.

Officials have been less than tickled with the fact the goose is protected by law and cannot be disturbed.

The bird has a clutch of eggs and any work in the area cannot go ahead until these have hatched, which could take most of the summer.

Sharon Thomas, the district's parks development officer, said: "As you can imagine, the park staff were in a bit of a flap when they found her sat there on 10 eggs.

"Because of the Wildlife and Countryside Act we are not supposed to disturb any wild bird in the breeding season.

"So we are going to have to wait until she is finished, probably in August or September, before we can go in there and clear the area."
