A body found along the coast of north Antrim is that of a missing County Londonderry woman, the police have said.

It was discovered by a member of the public near Portballintrae at about 1630 BST on Monday.

On Tuesday, the police confirmed it was the body of Freda Mullan, 55, who had been missing from her Limavady home since mid July.

A post mortem examination was carried out, but the police said they were not treating her death as suspicious.

A major search had been under way along the north coast of Northern Ireland after Mrs Mullan went missing from her home at Castle Park in Limavady.

Her Fiat Cinquecento car was found beside the harbour at Portballintrae several days after she went missing.

The Irish Worldwide rescue team joined the coastguard and the police in a land search, and a search of the local waterway was also carried out.
