A Warwickshire pensioner has spent the night in hospital after being attacked and robbed.
The 77-year-old woman was punched in the head and left with concussion and cuts following the incident in Rugby at around 0900 BST on Monday.
She was taken to Rugby St Cross Hospital and then transferred to Walsgrave Hospital in Coventry.
Police say the woman was walking along Clifton Road when a car, believed to be a black Metro, stopped alongside her.
'Nasty attack'
A man got out and shouted at the woman to give him her bag.
He then punched her before grabbing her bag and driving off towards Clifton. The vehicle was later found parked in Brownsover.
Det Con Anita Ashwood, who is in charge of the investigation, said: "This was a nasty attack on an elderly lady who was just going about her business on a Monday morning.
"The robbery occurred alongside a busy road and may have been witnessed by car drivers or other pedestrians walking nearby."
Anyone with information is being asked to contact Rugby CID.
