Man is questioned in rape inquiry
Police investigating the alleged rape of a 13-year-old girl in Middlesbrough are questioning a man who voluntarily attended a police station.

A police spokeswoman said the 23-year-old man handed himself in to South Bank police office early on Tuesday.

The girl had spent Saturday evening in the Purple Onion bar and restaurant on Corporation Road before the alleged attack took place in Elliot Street.

Police are examining footage from seven CCTV cameras in and around the bar.

The alarm was raised on early on Sunday after a member of the public found the girl and her friend crying in the toilets of the bar and contacted the police.

The attack is said to have taken place in a doorway alongside the bar on Elliot Street.
