Sun shines on new housing scheme
solar panels
Solar panels should mean low fuel bills
Solar-powered homes which should dramatically reduce heating bills are planned for Huddersfield.

Yorkshire Housing Group plans to spend £7m on 79 timber-framed flats and houses at Primrose Hill.

Roof panels would heat hot water and turn sunlight into electricity for the rest of the strongly insulated homes.

Most of the homes would be let at what are called "affordable" rents and if planning permission is granted work would start early next year.

Jimm Reed, from Yorkshire Housing Group, said this was not just a demonstration.

"It is a real housing scheme," he added, "which incorporates ambitious environmentally sustainability concepts."
