Dead man discovered on road named

Mystery still surrounds the last movements of a 27-year-old man whose body was discovered lying on a road by a taxi driver.

Thomas Whittaker, of Military Road, Brighstone, on the Isle of Wight, was found on the B3323 Bowcombe Road at Carisbrooke, early on Saturday morning.

The taxi driver was travelling towards Shorwell, near its junction with Plaish Lane, shortly before 0300 BST.

A post-mortem examination was due to take place on Monday.

Police believe Mr Whittaker decided to walk or hitchhike to his Brighstone home after a night out with friends at Newport.

They are urging anyone who may have further information to contact them immediately.
