A teenage boy has admitted murdering a young mother in her home in Midlothian.
Scott McMillan was aged 16 when he attacked Nicola McLeod.
He sat with his head in his hands as details of his crime were revealed.
The High Court in Edinburgh heard that he had broken into Nicola McLeod's house in Penicuik and stabbed her with a knife 40 times.
Co-accused Mark Adamson also admitted attacking Miss McLeod's boyfriend.
The advocate depute told the court that both victims were known for dealing drugs.
McMillan, now 17, pled guilty to murdering his 30-year-old victim at her home on 20 July last year.
Sentence will be passed after the judge has considered background reports.
