French rock star Bertrand Cantat, jailed for killing his actress lover in Lithuania, may be allowed to serve the rest of his sentence in France.
Lithuanian officials have told the French authorities that they are ready to allow the transfer.
The French justice ministry said full details of the transfer had not been finalised, AFP news agency reported.
Cantat, 40, was jailed for eight years in March for causing the death of actress Marie Trintignant last year.
She died after a violent fight in a hotel room in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius.
Cantat, the lead singer of French rock band Noir Desir, dropped plans to appeal against the length of sentence in June.
Ms Trintignant's family, who launched an appeal against the length of the sentence on the grounds that it was too short, also halted appeal proceedings.
On Monday, Lithuanian Justice Ministry spokesman Dainius Radzevicius told AFP that Vilnius had informed France of its intentions.
"Now the French authorities have to inform us whether they agree to accept Cantat," he said.
The transfer procedure could take two to three months, he added.
