Free slippers to prevent slip-ups
Slippers
The slippers are offered free as part of a local health day
Pensioners are being offered free slippers, for the good of their health.

Old, worn out footwear is blamed for dozens of serious falls every year, and Slough's Primary Care Trust is organising a free slipper exchange.

"Most falls among older people are at home and sloppy slippers often seem to play a part," said a spokesman from Slough Age Concern.

"They can end up with something like a broken hip, which is very painful, and can put them in hospital for weeks."

The slipper exchange, and general advice on footwear, is being offered at a local health day at St Andrew's Methodist Hall on 30 March.
