Patients welcome new GP arrival
Patients who were outraged when they were moved to another surgery have been transferred back.

The Eastern Primary Care Trust moved 2,300 patients last year after one of two GPs at the East Park Road surgery in Leicester retired.

Patients complained they had to travel three-quarters of a mile for treatment when a new doctor could not be found.

The Leicester Patients Group said a replacement doctor started work at the surgery on Monday.

List transferred

The problems arose at the surgery when Dr Sayeed retired following a lengthy illness.

He and his partner, Dr Seshu Choudary, had amassed 5,800 patients in total on their register.

At Dr Choudary's request 800 of Dr Sayeed's patients were transferred to his list by taking those with surnames beginning with the letters A to H.

The surgery and Eastern Leicester Primary Care Trust then continued trying to find a replacement doctor but failed to do so.

In order to deal with the problem, patients who were not re-registered with Dr Choudary were moved to the Severn Street surgery.
