(Close): French stocks closed higher, the strongest since July 2002, but were held back by further concerns over possible rate rises in the US.
Investors were given a boost by Microsoft's report that first-quarter sales had topped market forecasts.
The benchmark CAC-40 index added 25.88 points to reach 3,811.43. It had reached a high of 3,829.22
Cap Gemini gained 4.67% to 30 euros. It denied it was planning to sell operations in the United States.
Vinci closed down 0.7% to 81.6 euros after analysts at Exane BNP Paribas lowered their rating on the stock.
