Man struck on head with golf ball
A man is in hospital after being hit on the head by a golf ball at a Shropshire club.

The incident happened at Severn Meadows Golf Club in Highley at around 1025 BST on Monday.

Firefighters who were on their way to dealing with a rail accident nearby were the first to help before paramedics arrived.

The man is in the Princess Royal Hospital in Wellington, Telford, where his condition is described as stable.

New nine

A spokesman for Shropshire Ambulance Service said: "Somebody flagged down a fire engine which was going to Bridgnorth.

"A first responder paramedic vehicle arrived very shortly after, freeing the fire engine up to go to the other incident."

A spokeswoman for the golf club said: "It happened on the newly-built nine hole section of the course.

"A man walking his dog alerted us and he must have called the ambulance service."

In the rail accident a man was airlifted to hospital when his van was hit by a train on a level crossing on the Severn Valley Railway near Highley.
