A man has been sentenced to three years and nine months in prison after a car crash in which a young boy died.
Justin Thomas Martin, 32, of Sherburn-in-Elmet was sentenced at York Crown Court after he pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving.
Blake Spencer, three, of Sherburn-in-Elmet died in the crash on a minor road between Saxton and the A162 in January.
His mother, Kirstie Buckle, said she was pleased the judge had given a custodial sentence.
She was also injured in the head-on crash and stayed in hospital for several weeks.
'No comfort to me'
She said: "Nothing can give me back Blake ,which is the one thing I want ,so the length of the sentence handed out today is of no comfort to me personally.
"I am pleased the judge has given a custodial sentence as this recognises the seriousness of the crime and the fact my three-year-old son had his life taken.
"I hope it makes other motorists think twice about the way they drive or before doing a manoeuvre.
" People need to realise a car can have the same devastating effect as a loaded gun."
