Police have appealed for witnesses to an incident in which a dog owner was threatened by another man after his pet was attacked by two bull terriers.
The 44-year-old man was walking his dog close to the Tranmare Hotel, near Tranent, East Lothian, on Friday at the time of the incident.
After rescuing his pet, a man and a girl, believed to be the owners of the Staffordshire terriers, threatened him.
Lothian and Borders Police said the pair then ran off.
The man with the knife was described as about 20 to 25 years-old, 6ft 2in tall, of slim build with short blond hair.
He was wearing a red football strip with white sleeves, with blue jeans and white trainers.
The girl was about 13 years old, 5ft tall, of slim build, with light brown shoulder length hair and was wearing a pale blue t-shirt.
A police spokesman said: "We would appeal to anyone who may have seen the dogs fighting near to Tranmare Hotel, Tranent, on Friday.
"It is believed the Staffordshire terriers are owned by the man and girl involved in the incident."
