Blast firm to build new factory
Fire at Bartoline factory
A company whose factory was destroyed by fire 10 months ago has been given the go-ahead to rebuild.

Bartoline, which make products used in the decorating industry, is to spend £6m on a new factory at its old site in Swinemoor Lane in Beverley.

In May 2003, an explosion ripped through the plant sending clouds of smoke thousands of feet into the air.

The company says the decision to allow it to rebuild will safeguard 80 jobs and create 15 new ones.

East Riding councillors granted planning permission subject to Bartoline consulting with safety experts over a request from neighbouring ABI Caravans that a 15 feet blast wall be erected between the two sites.

Bartoline says the its building will have the latest sprinkler and fire suppression system.

Special cladding will ensure any fire would be contained within the factory for two hours.

Bartoline's managing director, Simon Barton, said: "The decision signals the start of a new era for our company.

"We intend to build the business into something which our employees and the people of Beverley can be proud of for years to come."

Bartoline is presently operating from temporary premises in Annie Reed Road.

It hopes to move into the new factory towards the end of the year.
