York station gets a £1m upgrade
York railway station
The station's information screens will be upgraded.
A £1m facelift for York railway station is under way.

Work began on Monday to upgrade the station's passenger lounges, information screens and security systems.

A new travel centre will be installed in the station concourse with nine ticket counters - one height adjustable for wheelchair users.

Train operator GNER, which manages the station, is also providing six self-service Fastticket machines.

The work is expected to continue until the end of the year.

The present travel centre will remain open but passengers are warned they may experience some disruption.

York MP Hugh Bayley said: "The works will improve the station for all the people who use it regularly and I hope they will make travelling by train even more attractive to others who do not."
