Rugby player Henry Paul has been charged with failing to give a breath test after being pulled over by police.

The Gloucester centre is alleged to have refused to provide the specimen after being stopped in Cheltenham.

Police said they arrested the player on Sunday after witnessing his vehicle being driven erratically.

The England international was charged with failing to provide a specimen, driving without due care and attention and not producing his documents.

A Gloucestershire Police spokeswoman said: "In the early hours of Sunday 21 March a car was stopped by police officers in Hewlett Road, Cheltenham.

"A 30-year-old man was arrested in connection with this incident."

The spokeswoman said some charges would be dropped if Mr Paul produced appropriate insurance and licence documents within seven days of being charged.

He was bailed to appear before Cheltenham magistrates next Wednesday.

A Gloucester Rugby Club spokesman said the club was aware of the allegations
