An elaborate new enclosure has been opened at a Cornish zoo.

The rainforest exhibit at Newquay Zoo's Tropical House features jungle temple ruins and plants from the Eden Project.

From high in the canopy visitors can discover birds, bats, sloths and monkeys, and further down can watch iguanas lounging on tree branches.

It is one of a number of projects currently under way at the zoo, which became a charity at the start of February.

Another project in the early stages of development is the refurbishment of the Oriental Garden which will feature a large enclosure for South East Asian birds.

Assistant Director, Stewart Muir, said "The animals have taken several weeks of disruption and building works in their stride.

"The birds watched with interest as the effect of a lost jungle temple took shape around them and the pygmy marmosets inspected each day's work thoroughly, like minute building inspectors."
