Guided bus scheme to be approved
A14 in Cambridgeshire
The council hopes the guided bus will cut A14 congestion
A controversial £80m scheme to link Cambridge and Huntingdon with a guided busway was likely to be approved by councillors on Thursday.

South Cambridgeshire District Council was expected to give its approval to plans for the 25 mile route.

It has already been given the go-ahead by Cambridgeshire County Council.

A formal application for the scheme must go to the district council, because it is the local authority area that will be affected by the scheme.

The county council is now applying to the government for permission for the project in the form of a Transport and Works Act and a public inquiry will take place in September.

The guided bus could be running by 2007.

Buses will travel along a 12-mile guideway between St Ives and Cambridge, following the route of the old St Ives-Cambridge rail track.
