Council row over Union Flag
The council is currently reviewing its policy on flags
Angry scenes followed a council meeting in County Londonderry where unionists narrowly failed in an attempt to censure the Sinn Fein mayor.

Unionists at Limavady Borough Council were angry at the removal of the Union Flag from its offices on St Patrick's Day.

However, a motion to condemn the actions of Sinn Fein mayor Ann Brolly narrowly failed to garner enough support at the meeting on Wednesday evening.

About 50 protesters gathered outside the meeting to demonstrate against the decision.

Mrs Brolly had vowed to step down as mayor if the motion had been passed.

Speaking afterwards, Mrs Brolly said she had not ordered the flag to be removed.

"I think order is a very strong word. I came here on St Patrick's Day with people from different religious and political persuasions," she said.

"When I saw the Union Jack flying very prominently above a stage that I had asked to be erected outside, I thought it was very inappropriate."

The council is currently reviewing its policy on flags and is expected to make a decision within months.
