Third man charged over pub death

Fred Fowler died in the Tap and Barrel pub in Hendon
A third man has been remanded in custody charged with murdering a Wearside man in a pub shooting.

Fred Fowler died at the Tap and Barrel pub in Hendon on 18 July. Michael Nixon, 19, was also injured.

Lee Hay, 19, from Hartlepool, appeared before magistrates on Wearside on Monday charged with murder and attempted murder.

He was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Newcastle Crown Court on Friday.

Police charged a 46-year-old man from the Billingham area of Teesside with murder and attempted murder on Saturday. He has appeared before magistrates in Sunderland.

A 36-year-old Sunderland man was remanded in custody earlier this month, also charged with murder.

He is also charged possessing a handgun with intent to endanger life in a separate incident in March this year.
