Go-ahead for 10-turbine wind farm
Mock-up of Burton Wold Wind Farm
The wind farm is to be built near Burton Latimer
The go-ahead has been given for Northamptonshire's first wind farm.

The scheme, with 10 giant turbines, will be built by Suffolk-based company Your Energy on land on the outskirts of Burton Latimer, between the A6 and A14.

Kettering Borough councillors backed the plan, which will cost £20-£25m, in a six-to-one vote on Tuesday night.

The farm will generate enough "green" power for more than 11,500 local homes - about a third of the buildings within the Kettering district.

Each turbine will be 100 metres high with a 60-metre tower and 40-metre blade.

Summer harvest

"We are looking forward to constructing the first wind farm in Northamptonshire," said Your Energy chairman Bill Richmond.

Project manager John Fairlie said the farm was also good news for the fight against global warming.

Your Energy, a leading independent wind energy developer based in Ipswich, is hoping to start work on the site after the summer harvest.

Mr Richmond said the Burton Wold Wind Farm should be fully operational by this time next year.
