A deaf and blind man has smashed his own quad bike world speed record.

Graham Hicks, of Peterborough, Cambs, beat his 104mph record on a custom quad bike, based on a Honda Super Blackbird CBR1100 motorcycle.

After 15 attempts, Mr Hicks recorded a top speed of 133mph in front of more than 100 people at RAF Wittering in Lincolnshire.

Mr Hicks, who is employed by the charity Deafblind UK, called the achievement "fantastic".

He said: "It just goes to show that given the right support, people with disabilities can compete equally to set a Guinness world record."

Mr Hicks was assisted by a pillion rider, Cambridgeshire police constable Brian Sharman, who indicated steering directions through touch signals.

Mr Hicks's previous achievements include the 2004 Variety Award for Outstanding Courage.

He holds the world record for the greatest distance travelled on a jetski (from Norfolk, England to Holland) within six hours in June last year.
