Japanese ambassador lays wreath
The Japanese Ambassador has laid a wreath on the reconciliation statue in the ruins of Coventry Cathedral.

The gesture marked the 59th anniversary of the end of World War II, in which millions of soldiers and civilians died.

The wreath-laying was intended to honour the war dead of all nations.

A wreath was also laid jointly by two 85-year-old British and Japanese veterans who fought against each other during the Burma campaign.
