Parking firm pulls out of deal
car being booked
The council say they were unhappy with managers not wardens
The contractors which look after parking enforcement in Liverpool have ended their council contract.

Vinci did so after failing to agree new terms and conditions for the venture, say the council.

Vinci's subsidiary company Citilink was established in July 2002 to look after parking in Liverpool.

The City Council said they had concerns over the way the management of parking enforcement had been handled, but had no complaints about wardens.

A 'difficult job'

The Council said that the "continued inability of the contractor to demonstrate a high quality of performance" had prevented the authority from entering into a long term contract.

Councillor Mike Storey, Leader of the City Council, said; "We are still committed to the fair and proper enforcement of parking regulations.

"The withdrawal of Vinci from this venture is to do with managerial and operational issues.

"It is no reflection on the performance of parking attendants who have been doing a difficult job in trying circumstances.

"As the city's regeneration speeds up it becomes even more important that we ensure there is safe, well-regulated parking."

There was no-one available from Vinci to comment.
