Murder remand after collision

A 19-year-old from Barry has been charged with murder after a pedestrian died in a collision with a car.

Daryl Gronow was remanded in custody until next Monday when he appeared at Cardiff Magistrates Court.

Craig Gerald Hopkins, also 19, from Penarth, died after he was struck by a vehicle in Cardiff city centre.

He was taken to the University Hospital of Wales but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The area behind Cardiff Central railway station.was cordoned off to allow forensic investigations to take place.

Three other people were injured in the incident on Saturday on Penarth Road.

Two men were discharged after receiving treatment for leg injuries, while a third man was allowed home following treatment to a minor head injury, cuts, and bruises.

South Wales Police have set up an incident room at Fairwater Police Station and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
