A search is under way for a 15-year-old wheelchair user and her boyfriend who have gone missing.

Northumbria Police are searching for Amanda Sutherland and Terry Giles, from the East End of Newcastle.

The couple were last seen at Metroland, at the MetroCentre, in Gateshead, on Monday morning. Police believe the pair may be heading to Scotland.

They said Amanda uses a wheelchair, but can walk with support and Terry has a broken leg and is using crutches.

A police spokesman said Amanda left her home in Cairnsmore Close at 1800 GMT on Sunday and walked to Westbury Way to see her boyfriend.

Amanda is 5ft 4ins, of slim build, with long dark hair, a pale complexion and blue eyes. She was wearing a blue sleeveless top, dark denim jacket, black trousers and white trainers.

Terry is 5ft 7ins, slim build, with short dark-brown hair. He was wearing a navy blue waist-length jacket and light grey tracksuit bottoms.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.
