Police say the raiders escaped with a shotgun and ammunition
Burglars stole only a shotgun from a secure cabinet, and ammunition, during a raid on a house, say police.

The burglary happened in Bedford Road in Rushden, Northamptonshire, between 0900 and 1500 GMT on Tuesday.

Raiders forced open a security cabinet in the home and removed the licensed shotgun and they also took ammunition kept in a separate container.

A police spokesman said: "The offenders forced open a second cabinet containing shotgun cartridges."

Police carried out a thorough search of the premises to ensure the weapon was the only item missing.

"We believe nothing else was taken," the spokesman said.

Double-barrelled shotgun

The shotgun is described as a side-by-side, 12 bore, 'Master' double-barrelled shotgun and its serial number is 120475.

Five or six 'Eley' cartridges were stolen from an ammunition storage cabinet.

Police are warning the firearm could be dangerous in the wrong hands and are appealing for any information.
