Special delivery items were stolen in the raid
A postal worker chased thieves after her mail bag and bike were stolen in the centre of Prestatyn, north Wales.

A substantial amount of money is believed to have been stolen in the raid, North Wales Police said.

A shopkeeper also ran after two men who are believed to have thrown the bike and the bag into a blue van.

Police have appealed for witnesses and information following the theft.

The raid took place at 0915 BST on Thursday, on Prestatyn's High Street.

The postal worker had propped up her bike before delivering mail to a nearby shop, when the theft took place.

Royal Mail spokeswoman Val Bodden said special delivery items had been in the mail bag.

Police appeal

She added that senders can apply for compensation.

"Nothing like this has ever happened before in this area," she said.

She apologised to customers who may have missing mail following the theft.

Police have released descriptions of two men they want to question.

One man is aged between 30 and 40 years of age and wore a white jacket which had a black pattern on it.

He wore dark trousers and a dark baseball cap.

The other man was stocky, wore a black jacket and light blue jeans, workman's boots and a black baseball cap.

Police are appealing for the public's help in locating the van which was used in the raid.

Anyone with information can contact North Wales Police on 0845 607 1002 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
