A man who doused his wife in petrol as she lay in bed after he saw her with another man has been jailed for two years.
Lewes Crown Court also heard how Lok Tang held a knife to Hai Ping Lei's throat and threatened to kill her.
Tang, 46, of Western Street, Brighton, admitted criminal damage while being reckless as to whether life was endangered and making threats to kill.
He was jailed for two years for each charge, to run concurrently.
Grabbed her neck
The court heard the incident in June happened after Tang, who was born in Hong Kong, saw his wife in Preston Street, Brighton, in a car with another man.
The hearing was told how hours later he returned home to find her in bed and poured petrol over her while saying: "I want you dead".
Tang had a kitchen knife in his hand and held it to her throat as he grabbed her around the neck, the court heard.
His defence team told the court Tang had been depressed because he realised his marriage and his restaurant business were both hitting difficulties.
The court was told Tang had been sentenced to 60 hours of community service in February after assaulting his wife, who has now ended their relationship and moved from their home.
Sentencing him, Judge Charles Kemp told Tang the offence was so serious he had to receive a custodial sentence.
