Police have compiled an e-fit of a man they want to question
A woman has been raped while walking home in the Bensham area of Tyneside.

Police said the attack happened between 0200 and 0230 BST on 8 August as the 23-year-old was walking along Westfield Road, near the Azure Blue pub.

A man began talking to the woman before dragging her into the back lane between Eastbourne and Westbourne Avenue where he raped her.

He is described as white with a dark complexion, aged 30 to 33, 5ft 10ins tall, of slim build with dark hair.

The man was wearing a dark shirt and denim jeans, and made off in the direction of Saltwell Park following the attack.

The woman was not seriously injured but was traumatised following the attack.
