Detectives from Nottinghamshire Police say they are struggling to identify a woman found dead at Newstead Abbey.

The victim, who is believed to be aged between 18 and 30, was beaten to death.

A walker found the body lying by a lake in the grounds on the morning of 18 March. Police say she had not been sexually assaulted.

At a press conference on Tuesday, officers displayed clothing similar to the items worn by the victim.

'Open mind'

Detective Chief Inspector Dave Bombroffe says the investigation will not be restricted to Nottinghamshire.

"There's no indication as to say where she's from, and that's why we haven't identified her yet.

"I'm confident as best I can be that we would have some calls from people that would have led us to identify her.

"Given the nature of society today, this person could have come from anywhere, and that's why we've got to keep an open mind."
