Wales@Westminster weblog

It's Wales@Westminster weblog, BBC Wales' Parliamentary correspondent David Cornock's diary on political life. It's a two-way process though, so add your comments too.

You may find it difficult to keep up with Cardiff Central MP Jon Owen Jones at the moment.

Mr Jones, a member of the Commons health committee, is taking part in an experiment to analyse the healthiness or otherwise of his working week.

It is all part of the committee's own study into obesity. The slimline Mr Jones is wearing a pedometer for the week with a challenge to walk up to 10,000 steps every day.

Their efforts are being recorded on a website Move4Health.org.uk. Mr Jones, a former Health Minister, believes the pedometer will encourage him to take the stairs rather than use the lift and use up a few more calories in his daily life.

He will be wearing the pedometer, attached to his belt, in Westminster and at this week's Welsh Labour conference in Llandudno.

Given Mr Jones's recent criticisms of the way the Assembly Government runs the NHS in Wales, he may shed a few calories swiftly if some of his colleagues from Cardiff Bay see him coming.
