Two men have been jailed for life for the murder of a prostitute whose burning body was found in a box near bins in east London in July last year.

Adam Bowler, 19, from south east London, and Deepak Bouri, 19, of east London, were found guilty at the Old Bailey of murdering Lisa Marie Spence.

Sanjeev Bouri, 26, from east London, was found not guilty of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Ms Spence, 20, died after being stabbed and beaten with a hammer.

The court heard the pair, who were both aged 18 at the time, lured Ms Spence to Deepak Bouri's flat in Forest Hill.

Bowler was obsessed with serial killer Peter Sutcliffe and kept files on him and various other murderers, the jury was told.

Bouri, a registered sex offender who had just finished a four-year jail term for indecently assaulting a 14-year-old, teamed up with him and hatched a plan to sexually abuse and murder a woman.

After murdering Ms Spence they put her body in a cardboard box and discarded it in Carolina Close, Stratford, east London.

The box was then set on fire.

On Tuesday Mr Justice Bell told the pair they would serve at least 20 years before being considered for release.

He said: "Bowler, your interest in her had a sexual element, but you had a fascination with the prospect of killing someone who was or appeared to be a prostitute.

"Your particular fascination was with the prospect of killing her with a hammer and a knife in the way you knew Peter Sutcliffe had killed his victims - the notes kept in your bedroom made that abundantly clear.

"Bouri, I believe your primary interest in her was sexual but you knew of Bowler's wish to kill a girl with a hammer and a knife. You willingly joined in."

After sentencing, Detective Inspector Mark Davis said: "Lisa Marie suffered a brutal death and our thoughts today are with her family and friends.

"I hope that the verdict and sentence will go some way to helping them come to terms with what happened."
