Students flee fire lit by candle
Firefighters have warned people to be careful with lit candles after 16 students had to escape from a fire early on Tuesday morning.

Crews were called to a house on West Parade in Lincoln just after 0530 GMT, where they found the building full of smoke and a television set alight.

One student suffered injuries to his foot while trying to put out the fire.

Fire crews said candles had been left burning unattended all night and the students were lucky to escape.

Fire Safety Officer Ken Baker said: "The candles appear to have set light to a television.

"I have set fire to a television deliberately to test how this might work with candles and you get quite a fierce fire within 10 to 15 minutes."
